Why Lithium Ion 

Lithium Ion has the highest specific energy* so it is lighter for the same energy in weight sensitive devices such as aircraft, man portable, and satellites. It has the highest energy density* making it smaller for the same energy in devices such as submarines, HEV, man portable, and UUV.

Excellent life makes it less expensive per cycle. Lithium Ion allows a shift in asset usage as battery cost and effort is greatly reduced. There is no normal maintenance required and has a much smaller thermal signature due to higher energy efficiency. 97% vs. 85% (or less) = 80% less heat given off. It is easier to mask and has smaller thermal radiators.‏
